Overview

The automatic hydraulic stainless steel plate and frame filter press is designed for clarification, polishing and fine filtration of liquids requiring a clean, hygienic filtration process. The plate-and-frame structure provides a large effective filtration area while allowing different filter media to be selected according to the required filtration accuracy.

Product-contact components can be manufactured from food-grade stainless steel 304 or optional stainless steel 316, while food-grade silicone rubber can be used for sealing. The stainless steel construction provides good corrosion resistance, easy cleaning and stable performance for demanding liquid filtration applications.

Depending on the process requirements, the filter press can use filter cloth, filter paper, filter cardboard or microporous filter membranes. By changing the filter media, the same equipment can be configured for clarification, fine particle removal and high-precision polishing filtration.

Key Advantages

  • Automatic hydraulic closing provides stable and uniform compression of the filter plates and frames during operation;
  • Product-contact parts are available in stainless steel 304 or 316 to meet different corrosion resistance and hygiene requirements;
  • Plate-and-frame construction allows convenient replacement of filter media according to different products and filtration requirements;
  • Compatible with filter cloth, filter paper, thick filter cardboard and microporous filter membranes for different filtration stages;
  • A flat sealing surface between the plate and frame helps secure the filter media and maintain a stable filtration path;
  • Available filtration areas from 2 to 35 m² allow the equipment to be configured for different processing capacities;
  • Simple plate-and-frame construction facilitates opening, filter-media replacement, cleaning and routine maintenance;
  • Suitable for closed pressure filtration, helping reduce product exposure during the filtration process.

Filter Media and Filtration Options

One of the main advantages of this stainless steel plate and frame filter press is its flexibility in filter-media selection. The appropriate filtration material can be chosen according to particle size, liquid viscosity, solids content and required filtrate clarity.

  • Filter cloth can be used for relatively coarse clarification and removal of suspended solids;
  • Filter paper and filter cardboard can be used for finer clarification and polishing filtration;
  • Thick filter cardboard of approximately 3–5 mm can be clamped between the plates and frames for applications requiring depth filtration;
  • Microporous filter membranes can be selected when higher filtration precision is required;
  • Filter media ranging from approximately 200–300 mesh cloth to 0.22 μm or 0.45 μm rated membranes can be selected according to the specific process.

Working Principle

Before filtration, the hydraulic system closes and compresses the plate-and-frame assembly. The selected filter cloth, filter paper, filter cardboard or membrane is securely positioned between the filter plates and frames.

The process liquid is then pumped into the filter press under pressure. Liquid passes through the selected filter medium, while suspended solids and other retained particles remain on or within the filtration layer. The clarified filtrate flows through the internal channels of the filter plates and is collected at the outlet.

As filtration continues, retained solids gradually accumulate and filtration resistance increases. After the filtration cycle is completed, the feed is stopped, pressure is released and the hydraulic system is opened so that the filter media and retained solids can be inspected, removed or cleaned before the next batch.

Typical Applications

  • Clarification and polishing filtration of beverages, juice, wine and other liquid food products;
  • Fine filtration of syrup, sugar solutions and other liquid ingredients;
  • Filtration of edible oils and other low-solids process liquids;
  • Fine filtration of pharmaceutical and biotechnology process liquids where the selected materials and filter media meet the required process conditions;
  • Clarification of fine chemical solutions and other liquids requiring corrosion-resistant stainless steel equipment;
  • Process applications requiring flexible filtration accuracy through interchangeable filter media.

Main Configuration

  • Filter area: 2–35 m²;
  • Plate quantity: 15–101 pcs, depending on configuration;
  • Product-contact material: stainless steel 304, with stainless steel 316 available as an option;
  • Seal material: food-grade white silicone rubber or other suitable material according to process requirements;
  • Filter media: filter cloth, filter paper, filter cardboard or microporous membrane;
  • Closing system: automatic hydraulic;
  • Filtrate discharge configuration can be selected according to process requirements.

How to Select the Right Filter Press

The appropriate filtration area and filter medium depend on the characteristics of the liquid and the required final filtration quality. For model selection, it is recommended to provide the material name, processing capacity, solids content, particle size, viscosity, operating temperature, required filtration accuracy and daily working time.

Based on these process conditions, the stainless steel grade, filtration area, number of plates, filter medium and other configurations can be selected to match the production requirements.
